America – A Nation Living in Fear

It’s apparent that America is in the times of fear. With terrorism, mental health declining, homelessness still a high issue, rising prices, political parties blaming each other for everything, and gun control it’s no wonder. As a society and a person in the midst of this, how can it be solved or approached in a better manner?

Americans are living in such high fear due to many attacks of terrorism and the recent school shootings that we can’t wrap our minds around. “…we are so used to such an insane level or prosperity that the thought of losing git all creates a great deal of fear” (Snyder). The simple thought of losing their jobs and benefits running out, causes them to have high tension and then behavior that makes their marriages fail or families running away from them. It’s a scary time.

The best way to deal with the political issues of today are to see them as what they are and prepare for what is coming. Instead, many people are burying their heads in the sand and ignoring this or having a fear for themselves and their country. You can’t really do anything about it solely, but you can make adjustments to help secure yourself (Snyder). “But not only are people putting off bringing new life into the world, an increasing number of Americans are actually ending their lived because of soul crushing economic problems” (Snyder).

When it comes to mental health in America, it’s very complicated to really give a solution that will help. Mental health is complicated in itself. “1 in 5 Adults have a mental health condition; Youth mental health is worsening; Most American’s still lack access to care; There is a serious mental health workforce shortage” (The State). These are key findings and they seem to be growing. More and more people are becoming depressed, anxious, or insomniacs.

These mental health worries many people since the effects can be horrible. Suicides, bullies, school shootings, erratic behavior and much more. It’s really no wonder that America is turning into a melting pot of mental problems. We need easier access to mental health care, more people to make careers in the mental health field, and better responses to children with behavior that is concerning.

The prices of many common items are rising. “The Consumer Price Index, which tracks most items on the average city-dwelling American’s shopping list, rose 2.9% last month – it’s fastest pace since 2012” (DePillis). Of course, as the prices rise, paychecks don’t normally, so it raises concerns for many people. Not everyone can keep up with the ever-rising prices.

For all these reasons and more, America is living in fear and will progressively get worse if there isn’t some drastic positive change in the world soon. Americans need to see the political side of life and prepare for it and exercise their rights effectively. They also need better mental health care, for all ages. If these don’t change soon we can see a rise in these horrible outcomes.
