Finding Purpose to Succeed

purpose concept on signpost

How do you become successful? How do you give yourself purpose? It is not something that can be done overnight. It’s not miracle work. It’s something you must develop over time and become adapted to it. There are many ways that this can be done, so let’s take a look at some and what you can do if you are stuck.

The first step is to see that you need a wake-up call. People need purpose to keep on going in life. If they are stuck and they can’t find it, they might give up on the single life that they have. Next, you have to realize that your purpose may not be directly obvious, but you shouldn’t let that be a hinder you in finding it.

Believing in yourself is another first step that you need to take and adhere to. “Nothing will work if you don’t believe in it” and that includes believing in you (Clear). And if you are determined to fail then you will most likely fail. “The biggest difference I’ve noticed between successful people and unsuccessful people isn’t intelligence or opportunity or resources” (Clear).

When you start to do this, you need to understand that there will be resistance. “A pervading fear, a fear of the unknown” (Wood). Your internal beliefs will try to stop you in your tracks and tell you that this isn’t what you need or want but think about what made you want to do this in the first place. “What you have to know is that this inner dialogue isn’t true – it’s more afraid than you are. Its main goal is to keep you comfortable” (Wood).

You have to learn to get outside your bubble because you are the center of the universe there and you need to explore other areas outside of it to fully understand yourself and what you want in life. Some problems caused by this personal bubble are: “we’re concerned with our pleasure and comfort and try not to be uncomfortable. This is why we don’t exercise, why we don’t only eat healthy food; this fear of being uncomfortable is also why we get anxious at the thought of meeting strangers” (Babauta).

You should be asking yourself ‘why’ you do the things you do everyday because it creates purpose in why you do those things. More questions like, “[w]hat am I chasing after? Why am I chasing it? Why was I put here?” can also be helpful (Su).

To conclude, to be successful, you need to find your purpose in life. This can’t be done overnight of course. You need to believe in yourself, make goals to make time for yourself and explore the world (or just what’s mostly around you), and then going outside your bubble. These first steps can help you find the courage to outgrow the older, more afraid you, and learn to find yourself and the purpose that you have on earth.
