    This day in age is different from all the others because we have an advanced technology. But, because of that, our society has been known to have less communication between people. Others will say that because of our advanced technology, we have more communication methods now more than ever before. It’s both a problem and advantage to our society.

    The main issue here, to many people, is the mass usage of cell phones. They are everywhere now. More than ever before, almost everyone has a cell phone. Many think that this is the main problem with younger generations.   • Benefits of Going Vegetarian

    There are many websites, videos, and even people out there that are misinformed about vegetarianism. It’s a quality of life, a diet for many people, and a way to judge someone. But, there is more to it than just that. Being vegetarian has many benefits, as well as disadvantages that everyone should know before embarking on this new ‘quality of life’ and before they judge others.

    What exactly is a vegetarian? Is it someone who doesn’t eat any meat? Is it someone who just eats salads and drinks only water? Look at this definition: “a person who does not eat meat: someone whose diet consists wholly of vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, and sometimes eggs or dairy products” (vegetarian).     Christmas is a joyous time of year that involves many traditions, but undergoes scrutiny. Many times, families who celebrate Christmas do not know of it’s true origin and just grew up in it and have passed it on in their families from then on. What exactly does Christmas involves in this age, why is it involved with scrutiny, and why should we care?

    Christmas, according to History.com, is “A Christian holiday honoring the birth of Jesus Christ, Christmas evolved over two millennia into a worldwide religious and secular celebration, incorporating many pre-Christian, pagan traditions into the festivities along the way. Today Christmas is a time for family and friends to get together and exchange gifts” (Christmas).

  • Hidden Dangers in Makeup

    Many make-up brands feel the need to put dangerous chemicals into their products and say that it’s not harmful in low quantities. Some make-up brands test on animals to make sure the product is safe to use. Although many make-up brands have hidden (sometimes in plain sight), people are still buying the products. But, there are brands out there that are safe and don’t test on animals.

    As of this moment, make-up brands “have no legal obligation to report health problems from their products to the FDA” (Sifferlin). The article also states that in a 12-year period, at least “5,144 health-related complaints submitted due to cosmetic products” (Sifferlin). Many brands that are using chemicals and testing on animals, are the ones that are issued budget cuts so they uses cheap chemicals instead of higher priced natural ingredients.

  • Clouds and Their Formations

    Clouds are a fascinating part of weather and nature. They can be beautiful, non-existent, brooding, and even scary. Clouds have so many different type of patterns and types that someone could take a class just on clouds. Understanding clouds can be an interesting conversation piece to know and for future knowledge for weather information.

    The definition of clouds is “a visible collection of particles of water or ice suspended in the air, usually at an elevation above the earth’s surface” (cloud). There are many other definitions because a cloud can mean many things like “any similar mass, especially of smoke or dust” (cloud). We are focusing on the first definition.

    There are many eating disorders that take control over individuals and hinders them to do many of the ‘normal’ things   that they should be experiencing. Understanding what the diverse types of eating disorders are, how they affect the individuals, and what we can do to help can better our knowledge on how to decrease these disastrous disorders.

    First, we need to know a few of the disorders are. The three main types according to the American Psychiatric Association are: Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa is described as “a severe restriction of calories; there may be a fear of weight gain and strict “rules” about eating” (Understanding).

    Food production is a complex industry that has its positive side, but also a negative side. Understanding where your food comes from is very important and this is one way to understand where it is processes into the food products you know and love. There are various types of jobs in the industry and knowing how they all work makes a wondering mind settle because you will know where most of your food comes from.

    “Food production is the process of transforming raw ingredients into prepared food products” (“What is”). Simply, it “takes fruits, vegetables, and grains in their harvested forms as well as meat directly after the butchering process and processes these into the types of food products that are available for sale in supermarkets” (“What is”). There are also many other forms of descriptions based on what part you are in.

  • Life of author Mary Shelley

    Everyone knows one of the most famous novels is “Frankenstein”, or the “Modern Prometheus” (1818) by Mary Shelley, but not too many know of her life and the rest of the novels that she has written. It’s time to look at one of the most famous authors that no one really knows the life of. There is much more than just Frankenstein.

    Born on August 30, 1797, in London, English was the famous author Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin. Daughter of a political writer and philosopher, William Godwin and the feminist Mary Wollstonecraft. Her mother was the author of The Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792) which is a staple for feminism writing. She even had a half-sister named Fanny Imlay who was the daughter of an affair her mother had with a solider (Biography.com editors).

    Filmmaking has been around since the late 1800’s and now there are so many that no one can keep track of. However, people have become more selective about what they are willing to pay for or spend their free time on. One of those being independent or ‘indie’ films. They are different than regular blockbuster films and are sometimes only subject to limited released, so what makes them so different and better at times? After this paper, you may have a different idea to what independent filmmaking is and may have a better standard of films today.

    Independent filmmaking is usually regarded as ‘indie’ films and are only limited released and made by ‘hipsters,’ as some say. There are many renowned films that are independent and are given a lot of praise. For instance, Halloween (1978) is an independent film and is regarded as a horror classic and almost everyone knows the film today.

  • Adding Taxes to Junk Food

    Will having taxes on junk food prove to be beneficial for the overall health of this country? Or will people just stick to it and pay more? Adding taxes to everyday junk food will, in theory, lead to a healthier country. Exploring what could happen and why this is important is crucial to these counties overall well-being.

    There was a study done that suggested that when a person buys a soda, then they are 30% more likely to become obese – which obviously increases the risk of heart disease and other health diseases (Blanding). Another point is that it’s cheap; making it more accessible. “While that may be the price on the sticker at the store, it doesn’t consider the cost to public health” (Blanding).
